Urbino 2

We enjoyed our two days in Urbino.  The weather eas kind, the people were friendly, and the students gave the streets and cafes a busy buzz.

Highlights were the national art gallery in the Ducal Palace, the house of the painter Raphael and the pleasant walks - up and down the steep streets - in this lovely medieval town.

Looking back towards the duomo and Ducal Palace, the warm brick colours of the lane were typical of all the walls in the town

On one hand, fields prepared for spring sowing on the undulating Tuscan countryside ...
... and looking the other way, a romantic building in a romantic landscape

Looking down Via Rafaello - the street with the family home of Raphael, showing just how steep the streets can be ...

In Raphael's house - a room fit for a picture ...
Barbara caught in a beam of sunlight in the portico of one of the most popular cafes in Urbino

Ducal Palace - A beautiful marquetry squirrel was only one of many incredibly intricate designs on doors and panels

Ducal Palace - view of Urbino through the leaded windows of old glass
