Festive fungi ...

Although autumn is the time for the porcini mushrooms that send Italians mad, there are still plenty fungi around - but I wouldn't eat any of them!

We saw these ones on a walk up in the area of Tiglio Alto on a rather gloomy Saturday ...  I don't know their names I'm afraid, so the captions are rther unimaginative!

Fungus no. 1

Fungus no. 2

Fungus no. 3

Fungus no. 4

Fungus no. 5 - no, hang on ...

  1. I think no 2 are the honey mushrooms, chiodini, armillaria mellea, edible, excellent! but if you want to eat any, have someone who knows check them

  2. I've heard of honey mushroom, but chiodini is a good name. I don't think I'll be trying them though - advice or no advice!

  3. Great to know 'honey mushroom' It is wonderful to be with somebody who knows and is willing to teach. A couple of years ago I ate a bit of a very big fungi growing on a dead tree that a freind-of-a-friend recognised and called 'chicken in the wood'
