Carol, Comics and Castagne ...

Yesterday, we went in to Pisa to meet Carol at the airport.  A Busy train and a busy Lucca station because the Lucca comics festival was just starting.  Plenty of people in outlandish costumes portraying characters from comics a bit more modern than Dandy and Eagle ...

Meanwhile, Barga was having its own festival - of chestnuts - with many stalls serving roasted chestnuts, necci (chestnut crêpes) and fritelli (chestnut fritters).

A girl puts the finishing touches to her make-up as we board the train at Barga station

More characters on the train

The sun came out for lunch ...

Comics in Lucca, castagne in Barga - The  chestnut festival was in full swing in when we went down later for a gelato

More chestnuts ...

  1. How poetic to have clowns, Carols and chestnuts all together. Now just for the chianti!

Great pictures as always, we are watching from cloudy Crowfield
